Eve Ensler's Obie-Award-winning play. The Vagina Monologues is translated into 22 languages and is running in theaters all over the world, including current sold-out runs at both Off-Broadway's Westside Theater and on London's West End (2002 Olivier Award nomination, Best Entertainment), and now The Vagina Monologues will be performed in Traverse City Michigan. The play will be performed by a local cast on Saturday, March 1st, at Lars Hockstad Auditorium at Central Grade School at 8:00 PM.

The V-Day Campaign was born in 1998 as an outgrowth of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." As Eve performed the piece in small towns and large cities all around the world, she saw and heard firsthand the destructive personal, social, political and economic consequences violence against women has for many nations.

V-Day's mission is simple. It demands that the violence must end. It proclaims Valentine's Day as V-Day until the violence stops. When all women and girls live in safety, no longer fearing violence or the threat of violence, then V-Day will be known as Victory Over Violence Day.

Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of "The Vagina Monologues" to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. V-Day itself stages large-scale benefits and promotes innovative gatherings and programs (The Afghan Women's Summit, The Stop Rape Contest, Indian Country Project, and more) to change social attitudes towards violence against women. In 2002, more than 800 V-Day benefit events were presented by local volunteer activists around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.

90% of the proceeds from V-Day Traverse City are going to Third Level Crisis Center and Planned Parenthood. Third Level will use their share to expand upon their runaway and homeless youth counselling services and their Street Outreach Program, while Planned Parenthood intends to fund three programs for empowering youth such as a How To Say No program for 7th graders and their parents and a male responsibility program. The remaining 10% will be sent to V-Day International to support their Native American and Canada First Nations initiatives.

Tickets for the Vagina Monologues are $10.00 and are available at: Oryana, Bookie Joint, Copy World, Higher Self, Cedar City Market, Kejara's Bridge, The Roadhouse in Benzie, Planned Parenthood and Third Level. Tickets will also be available at the door. Don't miss this profound performance!
