Asphalt Plant Proposed for Leelanau County
Proposed location is one mile from the Glen Lake School and 1/2 mile from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Asphalt plants emit polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons which are suspected of causing cancer and damage to the immune and reproductive systems

Another Wetland Threatened!
Michigan Peat, a company based in Houston, Texas, is requesting a permit to mine peat from 3,000 acres of bog wetlands in the Minden City Swamp in Sanilac County. It is one of the last, best-preserved bogs of its size in Michigan, and the U.S.. Local residents are concerned about losing this precious natural area which is habitat for unique plants, birds and animals that can live nowhere else. This wetland area is also valuable to help prevent flooding and to filter and cleanse the Black River and the Cass River which already have pollution problems. The Black River flows into the St. Clair River which is an Area of Concern to the Bi-National Public Advisory Council.
Whether you live nearby or not, wetlands are a valuable resource for all of us that need to be protected. Please write immediately and voice your opposition to this permit:
