WINTER SOLSTICE 1995 - Issue Number 34
The Caves of Hebron
by Tom and Darylene Shea
Ali Heikel stands proudly by the light of his life,
the potter's kiln.
It fires his daily dream.
Here, like in a thousand other caves in occupied Hebron,
l995, artisans in clay and cloth, steel and glass,
Mold, paint, weave, weld, and spin their freedom,
invisible to the khakied carriers of uzzi's and m-16's
who parade outside their doors.
Their vision, their faith, their art,
their fears, their humble hopes
echo from another cave
just 30 kilometers and 2000 years nearby.
